Room 107 Was the Most Normal Story… And That’s Technically Why It Should Be Weird
What Is Room 107? From my book "Oddities From the Motel: Stories From the Roadside Inn"
Most of the stories in Oddities from The Motel are loud.
Some are absurd. Some violent. Some psychological. Some poetic. Some just... don’t make sense until later.
But Room 107?
It’s quiet. Grounded. Feels like a typical ghost story.
That’s exactly what makes it dangerous.
Room 107 is the only story that feels like it belongs in the real world.
Which is strange—because it’s the only chapter that brushes up against every other story in the book.
Hair. Cookies. Letters. Ships. Bottles. Forests. Trains. Acid.
If you read it too fast, you’ll miss them.
If you read it slow, you’ll realize:
Room 107 is the most haunted story in the entire book—and not because of ghosts.
The truth is, Oddities from The Motel is more than just a weird anthology.
There’s a structure under it.
Every chapter is a room. Every room has rules.
Room 107 is the crack in the wall.
It’s the only story that tries to remember what this place really is.
And that’s why it had to be sealed off.
I talk more about the hidden structure of the book, the motel itself, and what Room 107 is actually doing in my deeper post inside The Gilded Nook.
You can unlock that anytime if you want to explore the threads between the stories.
But whether you’ve read the book yet or not—just know:
If you thought Room 107 was normal…
You should probably go back and check what was in the drain.
